Our new Library and Community Hub

This October, our new Library and Community Hub will be the first building to open within the civic precinct, Te Manawataki o Te Papa.

We’re looking forward to welcoming the community into this exciting new space. In the lead‑up to opening day, this page will be your central place for information you need to know. We’ll update it regularly as more details are confirmed.

Key Dates:

  • Sunday, 13 September, 4pm
    Tauranga Library at He Puna Manawa, 21 Devonport Road, closes.
    (Council Customer Services still available on site via the Devonport Road street entrance)
     
  • Friday, 9 October, 5pm
    Council Customer Services at He Puna Manawa, 21 Devonport Road, closes.
    (Please note that Council Customer Services are available weekdays at Pāpāmoa Library, Mount Maunganui Library, and Greerton Library)
     
  • Friday, 16 October
    Tauranga Library and Community Hub opens at Te Manawataki o Te Papa, Willow Street.

With our new city library set to open on Friday, 16 October, we’re celebrating with a library card design competition for ages 18 and under.

Yes. The new library and community hub has been developed for people of all ages, stages and abilities to experience and enjoy.

Yes. Tauranga Library and Community Hub will have a range of bookable meeting rooms available for meetings, workshops, presentations, and celebrations.

Six meeting rooms, equipped with digital screens and wireless video conferencing, will cater for small groups of four to twelve people.

On the ground floor, the community hub will be a flexible event space suitable for seated presentations or larger gatherings. With audio-visual technology, a kitchenette, and accessible facilities, it will be well suited to community events, classes, performances, celebrations, and more.

A booking portal will launch on this website later in the year.
